AQUE:FIXED - FIX COST PROJECTS

Fixed cost model is a business model where cost of the project is negotiated before starting and deliverables are delivered for the agreed cost. This model is most suited for projects that are well understood and well defined and scope of work is properly established before hand. With the help of scope and deliverables, we are able to accurately identify the costs associated with the project and can provide you best way to achieve your project goals.

Fixed cost projects are governed by Service Level Agreements (SLA) or Statement of Work (SOW). These documents clearly identify what needs to be done and what is not to be done. Any deviation from these documents call for additional funds that may need to be allocated based on the required changes. Cost of software/hardware may be included in the project or billed separately depending on contract agreement.

Fixed cost projects are usually done for the following types of projects:

  • Application migration to another system.
  • Maintenance of older versions of application.
  • Implement a new feature that is well documented and similar feature exists.

Advantages:  Disadvantages:
  • Offers best price performance ratio
  • Cost of the project is known before execution.
  • High predictability in achieving target schedule and costs.
  • Project execution managed by Aquevix.

  • Requirement change can throw these off track.
  • Not possible for projects where partial requirements are known.

AQUE:FLAT - TIME AND MATERIALS OR FLAT MONTHLY COST

Time and materials model is a business model where customer is charged hourly for the resources that they need. This model is most suited for projects where scope of work and final deliverables is not known. Since there is no fixed scope and deliverables, it is difficult to identify the cost of the project before hand.

Time and Materials projects are usually resource driven. The customer is charged based on requirements of the personnel needed for the task. Cost of software needed is directed to client and licenses are returned upon completion of the project. Some basic hardware/software is provided by aquevix.

Time and Materials projects are usually done for the following types of projects:

  • Quick start to a project which is not well defined.
  • Extension to your current team while saving cost and not increasing headcount.
  • To implement a QA or testing team.
  • To add a product evaluation or prototyping team.
  • To add expert resources that are needed for a short duration (6-12 months).

Advantages:   Disadvantages:
  • Offers most flexibility when project is changing frequently.
  • Flexibility to re-allocate resources on any urgent task.
  • Flexibility to change project scope, design and functionality.
  • Complete control over how team operates and executes project.
  • Monthly cost of operations is known.
  • Project execution is managed by customer.

  • Project cost not known before hand.
  • Less predictability in judging target dates and costs. (this really depends on project manager at customer end).
  • More costly than fixed cost (obviously).
  • Project execution responsibility is shared or fully owned by customer.

AQUE:FLEX - MIXED MODE WITH TIME & MATERIALS AND FIXED COST

In reality, many software projects do not have the requirements upfront. To give you the best of both worlds, we customized this model so you have the flexibility you need and save a few bucks doing so.

Mixed mode model is a business model where project starts with Time and Materials based costing and as the project matures and scope is finalized, we move to a fixed cost model. Customer can definitely choose to continue in Time and Materials model if they like.

This model is most suited for projects where scope of work and final deliverables is not known initially but is expected to be well understood and well documented long before the project completes.

Mixed mode model is usually resource driven in the beginning and moved to fixed cost if both customer and Aquevix agree. Cost of software needed is directed to client and licenses are returned upon completion of the project. Some basic hardware/software is provided by aquevix.

Mixed mode projects are usually done for the following types of projects:

  • Quick start to a project which is expected to be long duration.
  • To manage uncertainty in project execution with external project manager in initial stages.
  • Gain confidence in establishing Aquevix as a trusted development partner.

Advantages:   Disadvantages:
  • Offers flexibility and cost saving when project is being defined.
  • Enables starting of projects at a rapid pace.
  • Flexibility to move to a fixed cost model and transfer the responsibility to Aquevix.
  • Complete control over how team operates and executes project in beginning phase.

  • Project cost not known before hand.
  • Less predictability in judging target dates and costs. (this really depends on project manager at customer end).
